Professional Experience

Jody A. Lee was born in San Francisco on June 18, 1958 and after graduating with distinction from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 1980, has been a professional artist for over two decades. She has been an illustrator for the publishing industry for many years and her art graced the covers of many well known authors in the field of children’s books, fantasy and science fiction. She has received numerous awards and her paintings have hung at the Delaware Art Museum and the Society of Illustrators Museum in New York City. While in New York City she was active in the Graphic Artists Guild and a former chair of their Professional Practices Committee. Several of her works have been selected to appear in the volumes of “Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art.? She is currently a member of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild, the Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists, and the Portrait Society of America.

Jody works in oils on canvas or acrylics or oils on illustration board, and her art is unique in its combination of graphic design, attractive, well-drawn figures, and luminous color. Often she incorporates metallic gold or silver designs in her work, giving them a magical abstract quality. Her paintings clearly show the early Modern influence of portraits by Whistler or Klimt, yet are completely original in their love for color, pattern, and the beauty of the human face. With careful thought she will try to create an attractive image that will capture the essence and mood of the sitter or the story. Her inspiration springs directly from what the author has written or the interests and style of the portrait client, and Jody enjoys this collaboration as an expansion of the artistic process.
